About Bowers Field
Bowers Field is the public-use general aviation airport serving Ellensburg and Kittitas County in central Washington. Located about two miles (roughly 4 km) north of downtown Ellensburg, it supports private, business, charter, flight-training, and agricultural aviation activity rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
The airfield's origins date to the years before World War II. It was expanded for military use during the war, when it operated as Ellensburg Army Airfield, and was later named Bowers Field in honor of Navy Ensign Robert Keith Bowers, who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, the airport and surrounding land were deeded to Kittitas County in 1948.
Today the airport has two runways, a general aviation terminal and fixed-base operator, fuel services, hangars, and support facilities. It serves as an important aviation and economic asset for Ellensburg, Central Washington University, and the Kittitas Valley.
The airport sits just off Airport Road with convenient access to Interstate 90, making it a practical arrival point for general aviation travelers visiting Ellensburg, Yakima, Cle Elum, and the Cascade Mountain region.
