About Borama Airport
Borama Airport is the airfield serving Borama, the capital of the Awdal region in Somaliland, northwestern Somalia. It is the only airport in the Awdal region and is intended as a gateway for domestic and regional travel, though it has not been in regular commercial use in recent years.
The airport sits at an elevation of about 1,470 metres and has a gravel runway of around 1,600 metres, suited to smaller aircraft. Plans to resume operations at the airport have been discussed as part of efforts to improve regional air connectivity.
Located roughly 4–8 kilometres west of central Borama, the airport can be reached by road from the town. Borama is about 118 kilometres from Hargeisa, and the main road link means road transport is the primary way to reach the city and surrounding areas.
Because commercial flights are limited, most travellers currently arrive through Hargeisa's Egal International Airport and continue to Borama by road. The airport nevertheless remains an important part of the region's transport infrastructure, with basic passenger facilities and space for small regional operations.
