About Bora Bora Airport

Bora Bora Airport is the main airport serving the island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia. It sits on Motu Mute, a flat coral islet separated from the main island by the lagoon, and its runway was originally built by the United States military during World War II.

The airport handles domestic inter-island flights within French Polynesia, with regular Air Tahiti connections to and from Papeete on Tahiti. International travelers clear immigration and customs in Papeete before continuing to Bora Bora. The terminal is small, open-air and easy to navigate, with a simple baggage claim area located close to the airport dock.

Because Motu Mute has no road or bridge to the main island, every arrival and departure involves a short boat crossing. Air Tahiti and Air Moana operate shuttle boats to Vaitape, the main village, with the crossing taking roughly 15 to 20 minutes, while many resorts run their own boats directly to overwater bungalow properties across the lagoon.

Despite its modest size and limited facilities, Bora Bora Airport functions as an essential gateway for one of French Polynesia's most visited destinations. The short lagoon crossing between the terminal and the island is often the first part of the Bora Bora experience for arriving travelers.
