About Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is the main international airport serving Bologna and the surrounding Emilia-Romagna region. Its origins date to the early 1930s, when the airfield was established at Borgo Panigale and the first commercial flight departed on 4 September 1933. The airport is named after Guglielmo Marconi, the Nobel Prize-winning radio pioneer born in Bologna.

Located about 6 km northwest of central Bologna, the airport provides connections to domestic and international destinations and serves both leisure and business travellers. It operates a single passenger terminal spread over three levels, with check-in and arrivals on the ground floor and departures, security and boarding on the first floor. The runway was extended to 2,800 metres in 2004, supporting a wider range of routes.

The Marconi Express monorail links the airport with Bologna Centrale station in about seven minutes, giving passengers direct access to high-speed rail and the city centre. Taxis, private transfers, rental cars and road links offer additional onward travel options to the city and nearby towns.

With shops, restaurants, cafés, a business lounge, free Wi-Fi and accessibility services, the airport functions as a practical gateway for visitors arriving in Emilia-Romagna and destinations such as Modena, Ferrara and Ravenna.
