About Block Island State Airport
Block Island State Airport is a small public-use airport on Block Island, Rhode Island, about 1 mile from the town center of New Shoreham. Opened in 1950 and operated by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, it serves as a convenient air gateway to the island and its beaches, harbors, and vacation communities.
The airport's single 2,500-foot runway and compact terminal support general aviation, charter flights, and scheduled commuter service to Westerly State Airport on the mainland, a short 12-minute flight operated by New England Airlines. This connection links the island with the Rhode Island mainland, where travelers can continue by car, taxi, or train.
Facilities include a passenger terminal with a restaurant, Wi-Fi, restrooms, vending machines, and customer parking, plus nearby bike and moped rentals. Taxi service and local transport connect arrivals to New Shoreham, Old Harbor, and island accommodations.
Because the airport sits close to the town center and beaches, many visitors can reach their destination on foot, by taxi, or by rental moped, making it an especially convenient entry point for a car-free island stay.
