About Birch Creek Airport

Birch Creek Airport is a state-owned, public-use airstrip serving the small community of Birch Creek in the Yukon Flats region of interior Alaska. Opened in 1980, it provides a vital air link for a roadless village near the Yukon River.

Located about one mile north-northwest of the village, the airport consists of a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring 4,000 by 75 feet. Scheduled passenger flights operated by Wright Air Service connect Birch Creek with Fairbanks and other Yukon Flats communities, alongside air taxi and general aviation traffic.

Because Birch Creek has no road connection, the airstrip is the community's primary year-round link for passengers, mail and freight. The scheduled flight between Birch Creek and Fairbanks International Airport takes roughly 45 minutes, making Fairbanks the regional hub for onward travel.

Passenger facilities at the airport are limited, and travelers should plan for basic amenities. For most visitors, it functions as a simple, essential gateway to a small Athabascan community and the surrounding Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
