Bill & Hillary Clinton National Airport is the largest commercial airport in Arkansas and the main air gateway to Little Rock and the surrounding central Arkansas region. Also known as Adams Field, the airport sits on the south side of the Arkansas River about 2 miles east of downtown Little Rock. Commercial service at the airfield dates to 1931, when American Airways began serving the city. The airport was renamed in 2012 to honor former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, while Adams Field remains part of its official designator. Today the airport is served by Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United, with nonstop flights to major U.S. hubs and leisure destinations. The single passenger terminal opened in 1972 and houses 12 gates in one concourse, keeping ticket counters, security, baggage claim and departures within easy reach. Ongoing improvement projects have modernized parts of the facility and upgraded parking, lighting and other passenger amenities.
