About Beira International Airport
Beira International Airport is the main airport serving Beira, Sofala Province and Mozambique's central coast. It is the country's second-largest airport and functions as a key gateway for domestic and international travel to the central region.
The current passenger terminal was inaugurated on 27 June 1968, replacing earlier airfield facilities that had served the city. The building was designed by architect Cândido Palma de Melo and later became known as Beira International Airport, continuing Beira's long aviation history.
The airport operates a single passenger terminal arranged over two levels, handling domestic connections to Maputo, Nampula, Tete, Quelimane and Vilanculos, as well as international routes served by airlines such as LAM, Airlink and Ethiopian Airlines.
Located about 10–12 km from central Beira, the airport is reachable by taxi, private transfer, rental car and other road transport, with the drive to the city centre typically taking around 15–20 minutes depending on traffic.
