About Beaver Airport
Beaver Airport (WBQ) is a state-owned, public-use airport serving Beaver, a small Alaska Native village on the north bank of the Yukon River in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of Interior Alaska. Opened in November 1949, it provides an essential air link for a roadless community.
Located about 110 miles north of Fairbanks, the airport supports scheduled air taxi and charter services connecting Beaver with Fairbanks and other Yukon Flats communities. Its single gravel and dirt runway, 05/23, is 3,934 feet (1,199 m) long and 75 feet wide, with medium-intensity edge lighting and a rotating beacon.
The airport is unattended and has no control tower or on-site fuel; pilots use a common traffic advisory frequency, and runway conditions are not monitored. The small terminal building provides a basic waiting area for passengers.
Access to Beaver is by air, river, or winter trail, making the airport the community's year-round lifeline for passengers, mail, and freight. Travelers should confirm flights and arrange onward transport in advance, as ground services are extremely limited.
