About Baranof Warm Springs Seaplane Base
Baranof Warm Springs Seaplane Base is a small public seaplane base in Warm Springs Bay on the east shore of Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska. It serves the remote, mostly seasonal community of Baranof Warm Springs, known for its natural hot springs, waterfall, boardwalk and trails.
The seaplane base was activated in 1950 and is owned and operated by the City and Borough of Sitka. It operates as a water landing area on the bay with a public float dock, and has no control tower, terminal building or scheduled airline facilities.
Because there are no roads to the community, the seaplane base and public float are key points of access for visitors. Floatplane flights from Sitka generally take about 30 to 60 minutes depending on weather, and the bay is also reached by private boat or charter.
Sitka, roughly 20 miles to the west, is the nearest full-service community and regional hub for stores, restaurants, fuel and scheduled air connections. The seaplane base therefore functions mainly as a remote floatplane and boat landing for the hot springs and surrounding recreation areas.
