Baramita Airport (BMJ)

Baramita Airport is a small domestic airstrip serving the Amerindian village of Baramita in the Barima-Waini Region of northwestern Guyana. The village is the largest Amerindian settlement in the country and lies close to the Venezuelan border, roughly 20 miles west of Matthews Ridge.

Because road access to Baramita has historically been limited, the airstrip is an essential connection for the community. It supports light aircraft and small passenger services, with a single grass runway of approximately 914 meters used for domestic flights to and from Georgetown and other interior communities.

The facility is basic rather than a large terminal complex. Passengers are handled in a simple waiting area beside the runway, and amenities are limited, so visitors should plan to bring essential items.

Georgetown, the capital and main travel hub, lies roughly 260 kilometers to the east and is reached mainly by air. From the capital, passengers can continue to other domestic destinations or international flights from Guyana's main airport.
