About Bangor International Airport
Bangor International Airport is the main commercial airport serving Bangor and eastern Maine. Opened in 1969 after the City of Bangor purchased the former Dow Air Force Base, it operates today as a self-funded enterprise of the City of Bangor and is the closest U.S. port of entry from Europe.
Located about three miles west of downtown Bangor off Interstate 95, the airport serves domestic routes through Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, with nonstop flights to hubs such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Orlando, and Tampa as well as seasonal destinations. It also handles general aviation, military operations, and transatlantic tech stops.
The passenger terminal complex includes a Domestic Terminal and a separate International Arrivals Building with 24-hour U.S. Customs and Border Protection services. Baggage claim, airline counters, and rental car desks are on the first floor, with dining and retail on the second floor.
Ground transportation includes taxis, rideshares, rental cars, regional bus services, and hotel shuttles, making it easy to continue to downtown Bangor, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and the Maine mid-coast.
