About Bandanaira Airport
Bandanaira Airport is the main air gateway to Banda Neira and the Banda Islands, a small archipelago in Maluku, Indonesia, and one of the smallest airports in the country. It was inaugurated on 9 January 1981 and serves domestic flights, mainly connecting the islands with Ambon.
The airport is located on the island of Banda Neira, about 0.5 km north of the town of Bandanaira. It has a single asphalt runway, 10/28, measuring 900 metres, which can accommodate small aircraft such as the C-212, DHC-6 and Cessna 208. The Banda Islands are a well-known destination for divers and snorkelers, and the airport provides an important air link for visitors and island residents.
Domestic services are operated by small carriers, including Susi Air and SAM Air, with Ambon as the most common route. Because there is no road connection to the mainland, travelers continuing to other islands in the Banda group normally do so by boat from the nearby harbour in Bandanaira town.
Passenger facilities are simple, with a compact terminal and basic services. Local ground transport to and from the airport is available through private hire cars and motorcycle taxis known as ojek, and the town centre is close enough to reach on foot.
