About Bacha Khan International Airport
Bacha Khan International Airport is the main international gateway for Peshawar and Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, serving domestic routes as well as international flights focused mainly on Gulf and Middle East destinations. It is an important connection point for the region's overseas workers, families and business travellers.
The airport traces its origins to a small airfield opened in 1927 and gained international status in 1965. It was renamed in 2012 in honour of Abdul Ghaffar Khan, the Pashtun independence leader known as Bacha Khan, and has since been expanded and modernized.
Today the airport operates from a single passenger terminal with separate international and domestic departure areas, supported by a single runway that can handle wide-body aircraft. Passenger facilities include lounges, dining, duty-free shopping, Wi-Fi and prayer rooms.
The airport is located about 5 km southwest of central Peshawar, close to University Town and the old city. It is reached by road via taxis, ride-hailing services, private transfers and rental cars, with the M-1 motorway providing onward connections to Islamabad and other cities.
