About Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the main airport serving Austin, the capital of Texas, and the surrounding Central Texas region. Opened in 1999, it replaced the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport and was developed on the site of the former Bergstrom Air Force Base.
Located about eight miles southeast of downtown Austin, the airport provides nonstop connections to domestic and international destinations and serves both leisure and business travelers. Its passenger operations are consolidated in the Barbara Jordan Terminal, which handles check-in, security screening, arrivals and departures for all commercial airlines.
The airport is connected to the city by CapMetro bus services, taxis, rideshare, private transfers, rental cars and road links along State Highway 71 and U.S. Highway 183, making it relatively easy to continue to downtown, the convention district and surrounding areas.
With a live music stage, local dining, shops, lounges, Wi-Fi and other passenger services, the airport functions as a major gateway for visitors arriving in Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
