Atkinson Municipal Airport is the main general aviation airport serving Pittsburg and the wider Crawford County area in southeast Kansas. It is a publicly owned, public-use facility operated by the City of Pittsburg and supports private, corporate, charter, and flight training traffic.
Established in April 1940 and later used as a pilot training airfield during World War II, the airport has grown into an important regional aviation asset. The primary runway was extended to 6,100 feet in 2017, and the airport maintains two asphalt runways plus hangar, fuel, and ground support services.
Located about three miles northwest of downtown Pittsburg, the airport is reached via Atkinson Road west of US 69 Highway. Travelers can continue to the city centre, Pittsburg State University, Crawford County, and nearby destinations by taxi, courtesy car, or rental car.
