About Ashland Municipal Airport

Ashland Municipal Airport is a city-owned, public-use general aviation airport serving Ashland, Oregon, and the surrounding Rogue Valley. The field is located about 2 miles east of downtown Ashland and supports private, business and flight-training aircraft rather than scheduled airline service.

Aviation in Ashland dates to the early 1920s, and in the late 1940s a local airstrip developed by pilot Sumner Parker was leased to the city for public use. The city later purchased the site, and the airport was renamed Ashland Municipal Airport–Sumner Parker Field. In 1968 the runway was paved and lighted, and the facility has since been improved with a wider runway, extended taxiway, apron and tie-down areas.

The airport has a single asphalt runway (12/30) measuring about 3,603 feet by 75 feet and operates without a control tower or published instrument approach. Skinner Aviation serves as the fixed-base operator, providing fuel, aircraft maintenance, flight training and management of hangars and tie-downs.

For scheduled commercial flights and instrument approaches, travelers typically use Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport (MFR), about 15 nautical miles northwest. Ashland Municipal Airport remains a convenient general aviation gateway for visitors to downtown Ashland, Lithia Park, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and southern Oregon.
