About Asheville Regional Airport

Asheville Regional Airport is the main commercial airport serving Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains region of Western North Carolina. Opened in 1961, the airport has grown into an important gateway for leisure and business travelers visiting Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore Estate and nearby mountain communities.

The airport is located near Fletcher, about 9 miles (14 km) south of downtown Asheville, with convenient access from Interstate 26. It is currently being transformed through the AVL Forward modernization program, which delivered a new ticket lobby in June 2025 and the new North Concourse later that month, with additional concourse capacity planned.

Five airlines serve AVL with nonstop flights to destinations across the United States, and the airport handled more than 2.24 million passengers in 2025. Rental cars, taxis, rideshares, hotel shuttles and local bus service connect the airport to Asheville and the wider region.

With a compact and easy-to-navigate terminal, the airport offers dining, shopping, free Wi-Fi, charging stations and family facilities, making it a practical gateway for travelers exploring Asheville and the mountains of North Carolina.
