About Arnold Air Force Base
Arnold Air Force Base is a U.S. Air Force installation in Coffee and Franklin counties, Tennessee, adjacent to the city of Tullahoma. It is home to the Arnold Engineering Development Complex, the nation's largest complex of flight simulation test facilities, and supports aerospace research and development rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
The installation was dedicated on June 25, 1951, by President Harry S. Truman and named in honor of General Henry 'Hap' Arnold. It occupies the former site of Camp Forrest, a large World War II Army training post. The base airfield has a single asphalt runway, designated 3/21 and measuring 6,000 feet by 150 feet.
Located roughly 13 km (8 miles) from downtown Tullahoma, the base is reached primarily by road. It sits about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, with Manchester and Winchester among the nearby towns, making it a useful reference point for travel across southern Middle Tennessee.
Because the airfield serves military and official operations, public terminal amenities are limited. Travelers visiting the Tullahoma area usually connect through nearby commercial airports or arrange private road transport to and from the base.
