About Apalachicola Regional Airport

Apalachicola Regional Airport serves Apalachicola, Franklin County and the surrounding Forgotten Coast of Florida. It is a county-owned, public-use general aviation facility that supports private pilots, business flights and visitors travelling to the area's coastal communities.

The airfield was originally constructed in 1939 by the U.S. Army Air Corps and expanded in the early 1940s as Apalachicola Army Airfield. It later operated as Apalachicola Municipal Airport before taking its current role as the county's regional airport.

The airport covers about 1,100 acres and has three concrete runways, the longest measuring 5,425 feet. It has no control tower and no scheduled airline service; operations are supported by a fixed-base operator offering fuel, aircraft parking, a pilot's lounge and rental cars.

Located about two nautical miles (4 km) west of downtown Apalachicola, the airport sits close to US Highway 98 and offers easy road access to Apalachicola, Eastpoint, St. George Island, Carrabelle and Port St. Joe. Its compact size and proximity to the city make it a practical entry point for pilots and private travelers visiting this part of the Florida coast.
