Annette Island Airport is a small, privately owned airfield on Annette Island in southeastern Alaska. It began as a military airbase during World War II and later served as a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station until 1977, when commercial traffic for the Ketchikan area moved to Ketchikan International Airport.
Today the airport is owned by the Metlakatla Indian Community and mainly supports medical evacuation flights, private aviation and pilot training. It has a 7,493-foot asphalt runway and a shorter gravel crosswind runway, but no scheduled commercial airline service.
The airfield sits about 9 km (5 miles) southwest of Metlakatla, Alaska. Road access connects it to the community, while onward travel to Ketchikan is typically made by ferry or floatplane.
Facilities at the airport are minimal, so travelers should plan ahead and arrange ground transport in advance. Its remote setting makes it a practical but basic entry point to Metlakatla and the surrounding region.
