Altus/Quartz Mountain Regional Airport (AXS) is a city-owned, public-use airport located about three miles north of the Altus city center in Jackson County, Oklahoma. It serves as a general aviation gateway for southwest Oklahoma, supporting business, private, agricultural, and visiting aircraft rather than scheduled commercial airline flights.
The airport operates from one 5,501-foot concrete runway (17/35) and a single general aviation terminal, with no control tower. Facilities include hangars, tie-downs, a pilot lounge, a conference room, flight planning space, and aviation fuel, including 100LL and Jet A.
Development of the airfield began to take shape in the mid-1960s with land acquisition for a north/south runway, followed over later decades by taxiway and apron work, runway extensions, lighting upgrades, and visual approach aids. Recent improvements have included LED runway lighting and updated approach guidance systems.
