About Altus Air Force Base
Altus Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation in Jackson County, Oklahoma, located roughly 7 km east of downtown Altus. It opened as Altus Army Airfield and has served as a military aviation training base since the early 1940s. The base is home to the 97th Air Mobility Wing, which trains airlift and aerial refueling aircrews and supports global mobility operations. Because it is a working military installation, passenger access is limited to authorized personnel and official travel rather than commercial airline service. Altus Air Force Base is reached by road from Altus and is a short drive from the city, with access controlled at the installation gates. Ground transportation options are more limited than at a commercial airport, so arriving personnel generally continue by government, private, or pre-arranged vehicle. Although it does not offer typical public passenger amenities, the base provides mission-support services including dining, lodging, fitness, and family support for personnel and authorized guests.
Terminal Overview
Terminals
Altus Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation rather than a public commercial airport, so it does not operate public passenger terminals. Air operations are supported by military facilities, and the base passenger terminal handles authorized military space-available travel.
