About Aleknagik Airport

Aleknagik Airport is a small, state-owned public-use airport serving Aleknagik, a village in the Dillingham Census Area of southwest Alaska. Also known as Aleknagik (New) Airport, it was activated in 1982 and is classified as a general aviation facility.

The airport sits about 2 km (1 nautical mile) east of the Aleknagik central business district, close to Lake Aleknagik and the edge of Wood-Tikchik State Park. It has a single gravel runway, 15/33, measuring 2,030 by 60 feet, and operates without a control tower; the airfield is unattended and pilots use a common traffic advisory frequency.

Grant Aviation provides regional service to Dillingham, the nearest hub, with onward connections to Anchorage and other southwest Alaska communities. A road of roughly 23 miles links Aleknagik with Dillingham, and private transfers, taxis and charter vehicles provide ground access between the airport and surrounding areas.

Facilities are basic, with a small terminal building and apron parking, so travelers generally arrange fuel, dining and car rental in Dillingham. The airport remains an important entry point for lodges, fishing camps and recreation around Lake Aleknagik and Wood-Tikchik State Park.
