Albert J. Ellis Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Jacksonville and Onslow County in eastern North Carolina. The airport opened in 1971 and was named for Albert J. Ellis, a North Carolina state senator who helped bring commercial air service to the region.
Located in Richlands, about 19 km (12 miles) northwest of central Jacksonville, the airport serves civilian travelers and nearby military installations including Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River.
A new two-story passenger terminal opened in 2015, replacing the original facility. The 67,000-square-foot terminal has four gates and three boarding bridges, with daily flights operated by American Airlines to Charlotte and Delta Air Lines to Atlanta for connections across the country and beyond.
