Albano Machado Airport (NOV)

Albano Machado Airport is the main airport serving Huambo, the capital of Huambo Province in central Angola. Located about 5 km southeast of the city centre, it acts as the primary air gateway for the city and the surrounding highland region. Formerly known as Nova Lisboa Airport, the facility was reopened in 2011 after a major reconstruction.

The airport operates a single passenger terminal and a long asphalt runway, and it serves mainly domestic routes. TAAG Angola Airlines connects Huambo with destinations such as Luanda, Lubango and other Angolan cities, supported by a modern baggage handling system and a terminal designed to handle around 600 passengers per hour.

Because the airport sits close to the city, reaching central Huambo by taxi or private transfer typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Shared taxis known as candongueiros and rental cars provide additional options, while parking is available at the terminal.

Passenger facilities include a restaurant, shops, waiting areas and a first-aid post. Although amenities are limited, the airport's proximity to Huambo makes city services easy to reach, supporting its role as a practical regional gateway for business and leisure travel.
