About Ainsworth Regional Airport

Ainsworth Regional Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Ainsworth and Brown County in north-central Nebraska. It is located about six miles northwest of the city and provides access for private, charter, agricultural and other general aviation flights rather than scheduled commercial airline service.

The airfield opened as Ainsworth Army Airfield, built by the United States Army Air Forces between August and November 1942 and used as a World War II training base. After the property was declared surplus in 1948, the city of Ainsworth received title to the airfield for use as a municipal airport, and it has since operated as a regional general aviation facility.

The airport covers about 2,493 acres at an elevation of about 2,589 feet and has two asphalt runways, 17/35 and 13/31, plus a small helipad. It has no control tower, and pilots use the common traffic advisory frequency for airport communications.

Because there is no scheduled commercial service, most travelers reach Ainsworth by private vehicle, rental car or pre-arranged ground transportation. The facility offers fuel, hangars, tiedowns, a pilot lounge and other support services for general aviation operators.
