About Agalega Island Airstrip
Agalega Island Airstrip is the only airfield serving the remote Agalega Islands, located on North Island roughly 1,050 km north of Port Louis, Mauritius. It provides a vital link for the small community of Vingt-Cinq and surrounding settlements.
The original airstrip dates to the mid-1980s, and a new 3,000-metre concrete runway (15/33) was inaugurated in February 2024 together with a passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, hangar and firefighting services. The runway supports day and night operations, improving connectivity for government, charter and occasional passenger flights.
The airfield is used mainly for government and limited civilian air services between Agalega and Mauritius, with sea transport remaining important because the islands have no deep-water harbor. On the ground, the island has a small road network linking the airstrip with Vingt-Cinq and La Fourche.
Facilities at the airstrip are basic, and there are no hotels or restaurants on site, so travelers should arrange onward transport and supplies in advance.
