Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the main international airport of Mauritius and the island's only international gateway. Located at Plaine Magnien in the southeast of the island, about 48 km from the capital Port Louis, it connects Mauritius with destinations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The airport's passenger operations are centred on a modern terminal complex that opened in 2013, building on the airport's earlier history as Plaisance Airport. The terminal handles international and domestic flights, with check-in, security, immigration, arrivals and baggage facilities arranged for efficient passenger flow.
Road access from the airport is available via the Royal Road and connecting routes, and travellers can continue to Port Louis, Grand Baie, Flic-en-Flac, Belle Mare and other resort areas by taxi, bus, hotel shuttle, private transfer or rental car. Travel to the city centre normally takes around 45 to 60 minutes.
