About Cupul National Airport
Cupul National Airport is a small national airfield serving Tizimín in the eastern part of the state of Yucatán, Mexico. It was built in 1974, shortly before Queen Elizabeth II's first visit to Mexico, and is owned by the government of the State of Yucatán.
The airfield sits west of central Tizimín and has a single asphalt runway of about 1,792 metres at an elevation of 17 metres. It was designed to receive medium aircraft, but runway deterioration and limited maintenance mean it is now used mainly by light or general aviation aircraft.
The airport currently has no significant scheduled commercial passenger service and is largely inactive. Travelers visiting Tizimín and nearby destinations such as El Cuyo, Río Lagartos and Las Coloradas usually arrive through Mérida International Airport or Cancún International Airport and continue by road.
Passenger facilities at the airfield are limited, so most onward travel is arranged from Tizimín, which lies about 3 km to the east. The location remains a useful local aviation point in the eastern Yucatán.
