About Río Turbio Airport

This small public airport serves the towns of 28 de Noviembre and Río Turbio in Argentina's southern Santa Cruz Province. Opened in September 2013, it supports regional air access for the Cuenca Carbonífera coal-mining area in the far south of Patagonia.

The airport has a single passenger terminal of around 1,200 m² and a paved runway of 1,750 metres in length. The runway can accommodate aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Embraer jets used on regional routes, and the airport also has a control tower and adjoining facilities for fire and ambulance services.

It is located just outside 28 de Noviembre and approximately 16 km southwest of Río Turbio, with the Chilean border about 6 km to the west. Road connections, including National Route 40 and provincial routes, link the airport to nearby towns and to destinations across the region.

Regular commercial services have been limited in recent years, with the airport mainly used for medical, charter and occasional regional flights while local authorities work to restore scheduled operations. For travelers, private transfers, taxis and rental cars provide practical options for reaching 28 de Noviembre, Río Turbio and surrounding areas.
