About Copperbelt
Ndola is the commercial, administrative and transport hub of Zambia's Copperbelt Province, set near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Founded in 1904 as a trading and administrative settlement, the city grew with the copper-mining industry and remains a key gateway for mining, manufacturing and trade in northern Zambia.
The city's history is visible in landmarks such as the Copperbelt Museum, which covers the region's mining heritage, and the Dag Hammarskjöld Crash Site Memorial on the Ndola–Kitwe road, where the UN Secretary-General died in a 1961 plane crash. The Mupapa Slave Tree marks a darker chapter of 19th-century slave trade routes.
Central Ndola is busy with markets, shops and businesses, with Chisokone Market among the liveliest spots for everyday trade. Quieter residential areas such as Kansenshi and Itawa offer hotels, lodges and relaxed stays, while Levy Mwanawasa Stadium hosts major sports and public events.
Beyond the centre, visitors can explore the Ndola Golf Club, Lake Chilengwa and Nsobe Game Camp for outdoor recreation. The city's industries include copper processing, manufacturing and logistics, and Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport connects the Copperbelt with Lusaka and regional destinations.
Ndola works well for both business and leisure travel, offering mining-related corporate visits, trade events, historical sites and a practical base for exploring nearby Copperbelt towns such as Kitwe and Luanshya.
