About Dnipropetrovska

Dnipro is Ukraine's fourth-largest city and the administrative centre of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, stretched along both banks of the Dnipro River in central-eastern Ukraine. Its riverside setting, long industrial heritage and role as a transport and logistics hub give the city a distinctly practical, energetic character.

Founded in 1784 as Yekaterinoslav under Catherine the Great, the city was later renamed Dnipropetrovsk before adopting the name Dnipro in 2016. Known during the Cold War as the 'Rocket City' for its aerospace industry, it still mixes grand 19th-century buildings, Soviet-era avenues and newer commercial developments.

Central landmarks include the Transfiguration Cathedral, Dmytro Yavornytskyi Avenue and the broad riverside promenade. Monastyrsky Island and Shevchenko Park offer green riverside space, while the Menorah Centre and Dnipro National Art Museum add cultural and historical depth.

Aerospace, metallurgy, machinery and IT shape the local economy, supported by universities and research institutes. Around the centre, cafés, restaurants and late-opening bars serve Ukrainian dishes such as borscht and varenyky, and summer activity concentrates along the embankment.

Dnipro works well for both business and leisure travellers, with conference facilities, easy access to nearby Cossack and industrial heritage sites and a riverfront that comes alive in warmer months.

Where to Stay

The central area around Dmytro Yavornytskyi Avenue is convenient for landmarks, museums, restaurants and business addresses. Riverside hotels near the embankment suit leisure visitors, while quieter residential neighbourhoods offer smaller guesthouses and apartments.
