About Bari
Bosaso is the commercial capital of Puntland and the largest city in Somalia's northeastern Bari region. Set on the Gulf of Aden, the city combines a busy seaport, a growing airport and a rapidly expanding urban centre shaped by trade, migration and decades of post-war growth. Historically known as Bender Qassim, Bosaso developed from a small coastal settlement into one of the most important ports in the Horn of Africa. Its harbour links Somalia with the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf states, and the city remains a key entry point for goods, livestock exports and regional commerce. Landmarks and local experiences include the busy Port of Bosaso, the early-morning fish market, the waterfront promenade and the nearby Biyo Kulule hot springs. Dayaha and other neighbourhoods around the port and central market offer a view of daily life, while the Golis Mountains rise inland from the coast. Bosaso is also a centre for business, telecommunications and banking in Puntland, and its road links to Garowe and Galkayo make it a practical hub for overland travel. For both leisure and business travellers, the city offers a direct look at northern Somalia's maritime economy, culture and rapid urban growth.
