About Al Rayyan
Al Rayyan is Qatar's second-largest city and a major part of the Doha metropolitan area, stretching westward from the capital. It is best known as the home of Education City, a Qatar Foundation development that brings together international university campuses, research institutes and cultural venues alongside parks, sports facilities and family attractions.
Historically a settled area on the edge of Doha, Al Rayyan grew from traditional Qatari neighbourhoods and heritage sites such as Al Wajbah Fort into one of the country's most important residential and sporting centres. The Aspire Zone preserves that sporting legacy with the 300-metre Aspire Tower, Aspire Park and Khalifa International Stadium.
Key landmarks include the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, home of Al Rayyan Sports Club and a 2022 FIFA World Cup venue, and Mall of Qatar, one of the country's largest shopping destinations. Education City's Qatar National Library, designed by Rem Koolhaas, and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art are among the city's standout cultural attractions.
Neighbourhoods range from newer planned districts around Education City and Muaither to older areas such as Al Rayyan Al Qadeem. The city is connected to central Doha by road and by the Doha Metro Green Line, with a tram network serving the Education City campus.
For business and leisure travellers, Al Rayyan offers conference and education facilities, sporting events, family entertainment, retail and easy access to Doha's airport and commercial districts. It combines a quieter, family-oriented pace with strong links to the capital's business and cultural life.
