About Lubusz
Zielona Góra is the capital of Poland's Lubusz Voivodeship and the country's best-known wine city, set among rolling hills in the west close to the German border. Its long viticultural tradition, green parkland and compact old town give the city a relaxed, distinctive character.
Founded in the 13th century as Grünberg, the city grew around clothmaking and winemaking before becoming a modern administrative and university centre. The Old Market Square is framed by historic townhouses and the Town Hall, while the 14th-century St. Hedwig Co-Cathedral and the Łaziebna (Bath) Tower recall its medieval past.
Wine is woven into everyday life here: the Bacchus Monument, dozens of small Bacchus figurines and the Wine Park with its vineyard-side observation tower celebrate the city's signature product. The Palm House and Botanical Garden on Wine Hill offer tropical and outdoor greenery, while family attractions include the H2Ochla water park and the Kepler Science Centre.
Neighbourhoods around the old town concentrate cafés, restaurants, wine bars and hotels, with the University of Zielona Góra and its Science and Technology Park anchoring a growing research and innovation scene. Every September, the Winobranie festival fills the streets with a wine market, concerts and tastings.
For visitors, Zielona Góra works as a relaxed base for exploring Lubusz vineyards, lakes and woodland, and as a practical business destination thanks to its university, business facilities and road links toward Poznań, Wrocław and Berlin.
