About Zrnovci

Zrnovci is a small rural settlement and municipal seat in eastern North Macedonia, about 8 kilometres south of Kočani in the Kočani Valley at the foot of Mount Plačkovica. The municipality also takes in the villages of Morodvis and Vidovište, giving the area a quiet agricultural character.

The region's most important heritage lies in Morodvis, where the Crkvište–Morobisdon complex preserves the remains of a late-antique and medieval episcopal centre, including a basilica and hundreds of excavated graves. Zrnovci itself is a largely Macedonian Orthodox farming village with a modest, traditional built environment.

Visitors come mainly for the outdoors. The Zrnovska Valley and the slopes of Plačkovica offer marked hiking routes, picnic spots and views over the Kočani plain, while the nearby town of Kočani is known for its rice fields, medieval towers and thermal water.

Agriculture shapes local life, with rice, vegetables and orchards among the main products, and Kočani rice remains a regional speciality. Rural tourism is still small-scale, but guesthouses, mountain lodges and local restaurants such as the Aminta Restaurant give visitors a base for exploring the countryside.

For leisure travellers, Zrnovci works best as a calm rural stop for hiking and nature, while business and event travellers usually combine it with Kočani and reach the area through Skopje International Airport.
