About Pamandzi
Pamandzi is a compact coastal commune on Petite-Terre (Pamanzi), the smaller of Mayotte's two main islands, and part of the French overseas department of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean. It sits at the southern end of the island beside Dzaoudzi and is best known as the location of Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi International Airport, the main air gateway to Mayotte.
Life in Pamandzi reflects Mayotte's layered heritage, with Comorian, Malagasy, Swahili and French influences visible in daily life, language and religious tradition. The official language is French, while Shimaore is widely spoken. The neighbouring Rocher de Dzaoudzi, a historic fortified rock, recalls the period when Dzaoudzi served as Mayotte's capital.
Within the commune, the blonde sands of Moya beach are among the most popular coastal spots on Petite-Terre, while the green crater lake of Dziani lies a short distance north. Small neighbourhoods such as Labattoir, local shops and a working waterfront give the area a lived-in island character rather than a resort atmosphere.
Because the airport, the Dzaoudzi ferry terminal and administrative services are all nearby, Pamandzi functions as a practical transport and logistics hub. The barge crossing between Dzaoudzi and Mamoudzou connects Petite-Terre with Grande-Terre, Mayotte's main island and economic centre.
For leisure travellers, Pamandzi offers easy access to beaches, lagoon views and day trips across Mayotte; for business visitors, it provides the most direct base for arriving by air and moving between the airport, Dzaoudzi and Mamoudzou.
