About Triesenberg
Triesenberg is Liechtenstein's highest and largest municipality by area, spread across a sunny mountain terrace above the Rhine Valley and often described as Liechtenstein's sun terrace. Its settlements sit between roughly 700 and 1,250 metres, with wide views over the valley toward the Swiss Alps.
The area was settled by Walser people from the Valais around 1280, and this heritage remains visible in the local Walser dialect and traditions. The Walser Museum in the village centre documents that history, while the parish church of St. Josef and the Chapel of St. Theodul at Masescha reflect the municipality's long religious and cultural life.
Triesenberg includes small settlements such as Masescha, Silum, Gaflei and Steg, together with the mountain resort of Malbun. Malbun is Liechtenstein's main ski area in winter and a base for hiking and alpine nature in summer, with the Peace Chapel among its most distinctive landmarks.
The municipality appeals mainly to leisure travellers seeking hiking, skiing, mountain scenery and a quieter alternative to Vaduz. Its alpine paths, viewpoints and seasonal events make it a year-round outdoor destination within easy reach of the Rhine Valley towns.
Because Vaduz and Schaan are only a short drive away, Triesenberg also works as a calm base for business visitors, conferences or day trips in the Principality, combining a rural atmosphere with quick access to Liechtenstein's administrative and commercial centres.
