About St Saviour
St Saviour is a parish in eastern Jersey that runs directly east of St Helier, the island's capital. Much of its southern side is urbanised as a residential extension of the town, while the north of the parish remains quieter and partly rural, giving it a mix of suburban neighbourhoods, lanes, schools and green space.
The parish takes its name from Jesus Christ as Redeemer, and its medieval parish church, Saint-Sauveur de l'Épine (St Saviour of the Thorn), has stood on St Saviour's Hill since at least 1087. The churchyard is the largest of Jersey's parish churchyards and is the burial place of Lillie Langtry, the 'Jersey Lily'. Government House, the official residence of the Lieutenant-Governor, is also in the parish; the house began as Belmont in 1814 and was acquired by the Crown in 1821.
Key neighbourhoods include Five Oaks, Georgetown, Plat Douet and Longueville in the south, with Maufant straddling the boundary with St Martin. Howard Davis Park offers formal gardens and open space near the town, and the parish has a small stretch of coastline at Le Dicq. Other local landmarks include Longueville Manor, Grainville Cricket Ground and the Rue des Près Trading Estate.
St Saviour is closely linked to St Helier for business, dining and services, and it contains many of the island's schools as well as Highlands College, Jersey's further education college. The trading estate and main roads such as Longueville Road and La Grande Route de St Martin make the parish a practical base for work and travel across the island.
For travellers, St Saviour provides a quieter, well-connected alternative to staying in central St Helier, with easy access to the capital, Jersey Airport and the island's eastern parishes. Leisure visitors come for the historic church, parks and country lanes, while business visitors value its schools, college, Government House connections and proximity to St Helier's commercial districts.
