About Vallée du Bandama
Bouaké is Côte d'Ivoire's second-largest city and the commercial and administrative capital of the Vallée du Bandama district. Set in the wooded savanna of central Ivory Coast, it is a key crossroads for trade between the north and the port city of Abidjan, with a strong Baoulé cultural identity and a busy market tradition.
Founded on a site originally known as Gbékékro, Bouaké grew from a caravan stop into a colonial administrative and railway town. Its landmarks include St. Thérèse Cathedral, St. Michael's Cathedral, the Stade de la Paix and the Palais du Carnaval, while the Kossou Dam and the Brobo cliffs are popular excursions nearby.
Districts such as Commerce, Koko, Nimbo, Sokoura and Ahougnansou reflect the city's mix of trading streets, residential neighbourhoods and transport activity. The Grand Marché and artisan workshops are central to daily life, and the city's international carnival remains one of its best-known cultural events.
As the main commercial and transport hub of central Côte d'Ivoire, Bouaké links by road and rail to Abidjan and Burkina Faso and is served by Bouaké Airport for domestic flights. Travellers use the city as a base for regional business, cultural festivals and journeys across the Vallée du Bandama.

Food & Drink
Bouaké's food scene centres on Ivorian dishes such as attiéké with grilled fish or chicken, alloco and kedjenou, served in local maquis and market stalls. The Grand Marché area and roadside maquis offer fresh tropical fruit, spicy sauces, braised meat and relaxed evening dining.
