About Lacs

Lacs District is a central-eastern administrative district of Ivory Coast, with its capital at Dimbokro. Named after the many lakes of the region, it is an agricultural heartland historically associated with coffee and cocoa production and is organised into four regions: Bélier, Iffou, Moronou and N'Zi.

Dimbokro, the district capital, sits on the N'Zi River and developed as an important stop on the Abidjan–Niger railway. The town retains colonial-era buildings, a historic railway station and the N'Zi viaduct, while other main towns include Toumodi, Daoukro and Bongouanou.

The district's appeal is low-key and authentic, with historic sites in Dimbokro, lively local markets, traditional villages and the nearby lakes that give the region its name. The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace and other landmarks in Yamoussoukro are within easy reach by road.

Lacs remains important for agriculture and trade, producing cocoa, coffee, yams, mango, cashew, rubber and palm oil. Business visitors come mainly for agribusiness, government work and regional trade, and the district sits on the main corridor between Abidjan and central and northern Ivory Coast.

For both leisure and business travellers, Lacs offers a quieter central Ivorian experience with railway heritage, regional markets and convenient access to Yamoussoukro and the wider country.
