About Gôh-Djiboua
Gagnoa is the capital of Côte d'Ivoire's Gôh-Djiboua District and a lively regional centre in the south-central part of the country, roughly 275 km from Abidjan. Surrounded by cocoa, coffee and rubber plantations, it works as a trading and administrative hub where rural production and city life meet.
Founded in 1912 as a French colonial post, Gagnoa grew from a small administrative settlement into one of the country's larger interior cities. The area is historically linked to the Bété and Gouro peoples, and that heritage still appears in local festivals, including the Zamble masked dance associated with Gouro traditions.
Among the city's landmarks are the imposing Sainte-Anne Cathedral and the Domaine Arnaud, a protected urban forest of about 104 hectares in the Soleil district. On the Lac district's artificial lake, the riverside leisure area known as Gagnoa Plage offers a green, relaxed setting popular with residents and visitors.
Gagnoa's economy revolves around cocoa, coffee, rubber and food crops, with a designated industrial zone that hosts companies such as Cargill. Its markets, banks and transport links also make the city a practical stopover and service centre for the surrounding Gôh region.
For travellers, Gagnoa combines an authentic Ivorian interior-city atmosphere with useful connections. Leisure visitors come for the Zamble festival, the cathedral, the urban forest and plantation landscapes, while business travellers find a functioning regional hub for agriculture, trade and administration.
