About Vale

Vale is a parish on the north coast of Guernsey, the second largest of the Channel Islands. Its landscape combines quiet country lanes, low-lying coastal farmland and sandy bays, giving it a calmer, more rural feel than the island's capital, St Peter Port, a short drive to the south.

The parish has a distinctive coastal history. Until 1806 much of the area formed a separate tidal island known as Le Clos du Valle, before the Braye du Valle channel was reclaimed to strengthen defences during the Napoleonic era. Sites such as Vale Castle, Rousse Tower and several coastal forts still trace that shoreline.

Popular places include L'Ancresse Bay and Pembroke Bay, two sandy beaches on the north coast, alongside Vale Pond, a wetland nature reserve. Beaucette Marina and Bordeaux Harbour serve boating, while the medieval parish church of St Michel du Valle reflects the area's older heritage.

Vale is largely a residential and semi-rural parish, with neighbourhoods extending toward St Sampson and the Grand Havre shoreline. Its location close to St Peter Port and the island's financial and commercial centre makes it practical for both business visitors and travellers who prefer a quieter coastal base.

Guernsey Airport is within easy reach for arrivals, and because the island is small, Vale's beaches, coastal paths, cafés and nearby attractions are quick to reach by car, taxi or local bus.
