Caquetá
Caquetá sits where Colombia's Andean slopes give way to Amazon rainforest, a frontier territory of broad rivers, cattle country and young towns shaped by the settlers who opened it.

About Caquetá
Florencia is the capital of Colombia's Caquetá department and is known as the Golden Gateway to the Colombian Amazon. Set in the foothills of the Eastern Cordillera where the Andes meet the Amazon lowlands, the city is surrounded by rivers, streams, reserves and dense tropical vegetation that shape its identity.
Founded in 1902, Florencia grew as a regional trade and cattle-ranching centre. Its historic core includes Plaza Pizarro, Plaza San Francisco de Asís and the Catedral Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, while the Museo Caquetá and the open-air Museo y Sendero Histórico del Caquetá document Indigenous, colonist and rubber-boom heritage. The Petroglifos de El Encanto, a pre-Columbian rock panel near the Río Hacha, is among the city's most distinctive sites.
Nature dominates the surrounding area. Visitors swim at natural pools such as Balneario Las Pailas, hike in Reserva Natural El Danubio and Reserva La Dalia, or take river trips on the Orteguaza and Hacha. Nearby protected areas such as Cueva de los Guácharos and Alto Fragua Indi Wasi national natural parks connect the city to the broader Amazon region.
Florencia is a compact administrative and commercial hub with a lively food culture that includes moqueado fish, sancocho de gallina, mute caqueteño, smoked cachama and cassava-based snacks. Festivals such as the Folkloric Festival of the Amazonian Foothills celebrate local traditions, while ecotourism, business and regional logistics give the city growing relevance for both leisure and work-related travel.
