About Beni
Trinidad is the capital of Bolivia's Beni Department, set on the lowland plains of the Amazon basin in the country's northeast. It serves as the region's administrative and commercial centre, shaped by rivers, cattle ranching and a warm tropical climate.
Founded as a Jesuit mission in 1686 under the name Santísima Trinidad, the city retains a distinctive lowland Bolivian character. Its compact historic centre features whitewashed buildings, colonnaded streets and the Catedral de la Santísima Trinidad, while Moxeño traditions remain visible in local festivals, music and crafts.
Around the central Plaza Principal, visitors find the city's main civic and religious landmarks, as well as the Museo Etnoarqueológico Kenneth Lee, which documents the indigenous cultures of the Beni. Nearby, the Mamoré and Ibare rivers and surrounding wetlands offer boat trips, birdwatching and access to wildlife across the Llanos de Moxos.
Trinidad is a gateway to the Bolivian Amazon, with cattle ranches, riverside communities and protected areas within reach. The local economy relies on ranching, agriculture, fishing and regional trade, and the city connects by air and road to other parts of Beni and Bolivia.
For leisure visitors, Trinidad offers a relaxed pace, distinctive regional cuisine and cultural festivals, while business travellers are drawn to regional government, trade and agricultural activity. Together these roles make it a practical and authentic base for exploring northeastern Bolivia.

Beni Travel Guide
Best Time to Visit
The dry season from May to October is the most comfortable time to visit Trinidad, with less rain and easier road access. The rainy season from December to May brings heat, humidity and occasional flooding that can disrupt overland travel.
How to Get Around
Trinidad's compact centre is walkable, and mototaxis and regular taxis are common for short trips. For longer distances, travellers can use buses or flights, while many excursions to rivers and ranches are organised through local operators.
Where to Stay
Most accommodation is concentrated near the central Plaza Principal and the historic centre, ranging from small hotels to guesthouses. For a more nature-focused stay, lodges and ranches outside the city offer access to the rivers and wetlands.
Food & Drink
Beni cuisine features river fish such as surubí and pacú, as well as masaco, a mash of plantain or cassava with dried meat. Local markets, small restaurants and juice stalls offer fresh tropical fruits and everyday Bolivian dishes.
