About Chaco
Resistencia is the capital of Chaco Province in northeastern Argentina and the region's administrative, commercial and service centre. Set on the Chaco plain near the Paraná River, it faces the city of Corrientes across the General Manuel Belgrano Bridge, forming a combined urban area of more than 800,000 people.
The city is best known as Argentina's National Capital of Sculptures, with more than 600 public artworks along its streets, squares and parks. This open-air artistic identity grew around the International Sculpture Biennial held in the city, and institutions such as the Museo de Bellas Artes René Brusau and the Museo del Hombre Chaqueño preserve local and regional culture.
The historic core clusters around Plaza 25 de Mayo, the Casa de Gobierno and the Cathedral of San Fernando Rey. Nearby, the Domo del Centenario hosts concerts and events, while the Costanera and riverside parks offer views toward the Paraná River and Corrientes.
As a provincial capital, Resistencia combines public administration, commerce, logistics, education and a growing meetings tourism sector. Its position on national routes 11 and 16 and its international airport connect the city with Buenos Aires and other destinations across Argentina.
For travellers, Resistencia offers a compact, walkable centre, a warm subtropical climate and a distinctive artistic character that sets it apart from larger Argentine cities. It also works as a practical base for exploring the wider Chaco region and the nearby city of Corrientes.
