About Saint Mary

Saint Mary is a parish on the southwestern coast of Antigua, part of Antigua and Barbuda. Its landscape ranges from the forested Shekerley Mountains, including Boggy Peak (renamed Mount Obama), to beaches and the marina community of Jolly Harbour.

The parish was established in 1692 and retains reminders of its sugar-plantation past in old mill ruins, estate houses and the parish church at Old Road. It also lies within the Antigua Black Pineapple belt, a small agricultural area known for the island's notably sweet pineapple.

Bolans is the largest settlement and adjoins Jolly Harbour, the main resort and yachting hub, while Old Road and Urlings have a quieter, local character. Popular beaches include Jolly Beach, Valley Church Beach, Darkwood Beach, Ffryes Beach and Carlisle Bay, offering swimming, snorkelling and beachfront dining.

Saint Mary is primarily a leisure destination but also supports small-scale business and events through its marina, resorts and holiday rentals. Its combination of west-coast beaches, mountain scenery and easy access to the rest of Antigua makes it a practical base for both holidaymakers and business visitors.
