About Burton-Nibbs International Airport
Burton-Nibbs International Airport is the main airport serving Barbuda, the smaller of the two main islands of Antigua and Barbuda. Opened on 3 October 2024, it replaced the former Barbuda Codrington Airport and gave the island a much longer paved runway for regional and international travel.
Located roughly 3.5 km east of Codrington, the airport was built with a 1,860-metre runway and a compact terminal, with plans to extend the runway to 2,400 metres for jet aircraft. It has apron space for several small aircraft and a control tower.
The airport is reached by road from Codrington and other parts of Barbuda, and connections to Antigua and beyond are provided mainly by small regional aircraft. Taxis, rental cars and pre-booked transfers meet arriving passengers outside the terminal.
As the island's primary air gateway, it supports tourism, business and local travel, making Barbuda easier to reach for visitors heading to its beaches, resorts and coastal communities.
