Yellowknife Airport is the main air gateway to Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories. As the territory's busiest airport, it links the region with Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Whitehorse, and connects travellers to regional hubs such as Inuvik, Norman Wells, Hay River and Fort Simpson.
The original terminal building opened in 1967, with additions completed in 1998 and 2005. Today the airport serves a mix of scheduled passenger flights, regional and charter operations, and acts as an airport of entry staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency.
Located about 5 km from downtown Yellowknife and reached via Highway 3, the airport is a short drive from the city centre. Taxis, hotel shuttles, private transfers and rental cars provide onward connections to hotels, businesses and attractions.
